Christmas in Budapest

You are going to celebrate Christmas in Budapest with Hungarian friends; I have some basic information about opening hours, public transport and some interesting traditions of Hungarian Christmas.

In mid-December Budapest starts preparing for Christmas. The streets are decorated with colourful lights, shop-windows are adorned to lure customers into the hunt for gifts.More and more people set out to search for the perfect Christmas presents in shops or markets; if you are looking for a unique gift of Hungarian and want to get away from all similar stores visit Budapest Christmas Fair in the Vörösmarty square.
Opening hours Christmas in Budapest
Shops are open for the bronze, silver and gold Sunday on three Weekends before Christmas.Shops close around early afternoon on 24 December and open only on 27 December. Some larger malls may remain open until early afternoon the 24th December. Christmas day and boxing day all shops, supermarkets are closed in Budapest. Do not open many shops between Christmas and new year's Eve.
Life back to normal after 1 January.
Restaurants also is closed for Christmas Eve (24 December), but most of them open on 25-26th December. Budapest is a popular holiday destination even in winter and restaurant owners that very well. Don't worry you will certainly find enough good restaurants during Christmas opening in Budapest
Public transport in Budapest Christmas
Vehicles for public transport runs until approximately 15.00-16.00. After 4 p.m. night services fly passengers. On 25-26 December vehicles running according to schedule vacation. When I was a small child was always thick snow around Christmas.The first snowflakes fall usually at the end of November.The temperature was around zero or below. Today it is hard to tell what will the weather be like Christmas. due to the warming we don't see any snow in the last two years; the time around Christmas is sometimes rather mild and dull, with some rain, and are crispy and sunny blue sky with crystals occasionally. I prefer the latter, if I long for White Christmas every year.
